Joan M. Hakun, 84, Passes Away; Mass Scheduled for Nov. 15

URGEN UPDATE: Joan M. Hakun, 84, of Allentown, tragically passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Luther Crest Healthcare Center in South Whitehall Township. The community mourns the loss of this beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who dedicated her life to family and service.

Joan’s husband, George Hakun III, stood by her side for an incredible 63 years of marriage. Joan was not only a devoted homemaker but also began her career as a Registered Nurse, showcasing her commitment to caring for others. A graduate of Reading High School, the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, and Kutztown University, she exemplified dedication in both her personal and professional life.

Born in Reading, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Helen (Grota) Miseravage. She was an active member and former Lector at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown. Joan’s vibrant spirit touched many lives; she was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, known for her passions including traveling, reading, and classical music. Additionally, she contributed to the community as a former member of the Allentown Garden Club.

Survived by her son Mark G. Hakun (Maurann) of Gambrills, MD, and her cherished grandchildren, including Monica Burnett (Jeff) of Layton, UT, and Marcella Hakun of Gambrills, MD. Joan also leaves behind a great-granddaughter, Emma Burnett.

The family reflects on their loss, remembering Joan’s late son, Andrew G. Hakun, and his wife, Cathy Hakun, along with grandchildren Steven and Patrick Hakun of Woodbine, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18103. A calling hour will be held prior to the service, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the church.
