UPDATE: Today, November 6, 2025, marks a significant milestone as Khruangbin celebrates the tenth anniversary of their iconic debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You. In a thrilling move, the band has just announced the release of The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, a completely re-imagined and re-recorded version of the beloved project.
In an exclusive statement to Rolling Stone, bassist Laura Lee Ochoa shared the inspiration behind this momentous occasion. “The thought was like, ‘We’ll just do it all over again. And it will be us 10 years later with the same instruments in the same location, and it’ll be different because we’re different.’” Ochoa emphasized that the new versions reflect how their perspectives have evolved over the past decade.
This new album diverges from the original, featuring fresh takes on classic tracks. Notably, the opener “Mr. White” has been replaced with “Bin Bin,” which was previously a bonus track on the Japanese edition of the original album. This change illustrates the band’s commitment to creating a contemporary experience for fans.
As part of the release, the band has also unveiled a new music video for “White Gloves ii,” offering fans a glimpse of their artistic evolution. Fans are encouraged to watch the video and experience the transformation of Khruangbin’s sound.
