UPDATE: A Meriden man, 24-year-old Addison Clegg, has been convicted of first-degree kidnapping, robbery, and strangulation during a botched sneaker sale. A jury in New Britain Superior Court delivered the verdict, confirming Clegg’s involvement in a violent crime that escalated horrifyingly during a transaction arranged via Facebook Marketplace.
According to a statement from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice, Clegg’s actions were shocking. He strangled the victim into unconsciousness, allowing an accomplice to steal the victim’s legally registered 9mm firearm and vehicle. The victim, upon regaining consciousness, managed to escape from the moving vehicle on Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill, enduring serious injuries, including a broken foot.
