Namit Filipino Barbecue to Launch First Restaurant This Spring

BREAKING: Namit Filipino Barbecue, Howard County’s only sit-in Filipino restaurant, is set to open its first brick-and-mortar location in March 2024. The restaurant will take over operations from its food truck, which has been serving the community since October 2022.

Located at 9200 Old Annapolis Road in Columbia, the permanent establishment will mark a significant milestone for owner and chef Maria Carmel Tabligan. “We are very optimistic. There is a lot of excitement for our brick-and-mortar,” she stated, emphasizing the eagerness to serve the local community.

The food truck, which has been a staple at office buildings, hospitals, and breweries, will conclude its service as it transitions to the restaurant. Its final day of operation is expected to be this upcoming Saturday, or Sunday if supplies last, creating a sense of urgency for food lovers eager to savor its offerings one last time.

Namit Filipino Barbecue has garnered attention for its unique Ilonggo Filipino cuisine, featuring popular dishes such as pork and chicken skewers, ribs, and the celebrated Bacolod-style chicken inasal. The restaurant will expand its menu to include local specialties, such as Bangus ala Pobre, a milkfish dish that won the July Embassy Chefs Challenge in Washington.

Chef Paolo Penalosa, who co-owns the business with Tabligan, shares their vision of enriching Howard County’s diverse culinary scene. “Howard County is very diverse,” he said. “Adding Filipino Cuisine would surely enrich its restaurant scene.”

As part of this new venture, Namit Filipino Barbecue plans to hire at least six additional employees before opening. The restaurant will also resume food truck operations for lunches, festivals, and events in Howard and surrounding counties, ensuring that their delicious offerings remain accessible to fans.

The anticipated opening of Namit Filipino Barbecue is not just a business milestone; it represents the growing appreciation for diverse culinary experiences in the region. With a focus on community and culture, the restaurant is poised to become a beloved dining destination in Columbia.
