ALERT: Residents of Northern Liberties in Philadelphia are on high alert after reports of a disturbing TikTok scheme targeting young women. Local resident Jearold Hersey revealed that at least 20 young women have knocked on his door since September, seeking hair appointments that were scheduled through a TikTok page named “Nariah the Hairstylist.”
Hersey expressed his growing concerns for safety, stating, “This is freaking my son out.” The alarming situation escalates as women arrive at his home, having sent a deposit via Cash App before receiving an address that leads them directly to his doorstep. “It’s kind of nerve-racking because you don’t really know who is coming to the door,” he added.
Neighbors have taken action, posting warnings on their doors to alert visitors that their address has been linked to an online scam. “Sometimes people see the sign and go away, and sometimes people bang on the door and they’re yelling in front of their door,” Hersey explained, illustrating the anxiety that has engulfed the community.
In an effort to investigate further, Action News contacted the phone number listed on the TikTok page. The woman on the line claimed she would provide the location after receiving a $25 payment, but abruptly hung up when questioned about the scheme.
“This isn’t cool. It’s not fair to the people, not just the people who are getting ripped off for money; we feel unsafe as well,” Hersey stated. He has taken the initiative to report the TikTok page to the platform and is calling for swift action against the perpetrators.
The Philadelphia Police have advised anyone who believes they may be a victim to file a police report. As these incidents continue to unfold, local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
This developing story raises serious concerns about safety in the community and the exploitation of young women. Authorities emphasize the importance of reporting such scams to prevent others from falling victim to similar schemes.
