Police Identify Luis Francisco-Manzo in South San Francisco Shooting

BREAKING: Police have identified the man shot during a confrontation with officers last week in South San Francisco as 28-year-old Luis Francisco-Manzo. The South San Francisco Police Department confirmed that he is currently recovering from his injuries at a local hospital.

The incident occurred on December 8, 2023, around 5:10 a.m., when officers responded to a call from Francisco-Manzo’s mother. She reported that her son had taken drugs and was expressing suicidal thoughts while armed with a knife.

Authorities have also revealed the identities of the officers involved in the shooting: Brendan Hart, who has eight years of experience, and Martin Corona, with four-and-a-half years on the force. Body-worn camera footage captured crucial moments of the event, showing Francisco-Manzo exiting an apartment and initially complying with police orders to walk toward them.

However, as officers instructed him to turn around, Francisco-Manzo brandished the knife, prompting the officers to issue multiple commands to drop the weapon. When he failed to comply, officers deployed Tasers, which proved ineffective. Francisco-Manzo then advanced towards the officers with the knife raised, at which point Hart and Corona fired their weapons, striking him.

Police rendered immediate medical aid until firefighters arrived to transport him to the hospital. Initially, he was reported in critical condition.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is actively investigating the shooting, and further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
