Rob Richardson Announces Bid for Second Term on Frankfort Commission

UPDATE: Rob Richardson is officially seeking a second term on the Frankfort Board of Commissioners, declaring his commitment to enhancing community services and fiscal responsibility. In a statement released earlier today, Richardson emphasized the need for continuity in leadership to ensure the city’s growth and sustainability.

Richardson, who previously served as assistant police chief in Frankfort, highlighted his experience as critical to understanding city operations. “Serving as an elected official has given me better insight into the scope of all city operations,” he stated. His focus remains on implementing a common-sense approach to government that prioritizes community well-being.

During his first term, Richardson played a pivotal role in maintaining the city’s budget. “We are operating within budget and generating a surplus through responsible fiscal management,” he noted, reflecting on the challenges of revenue generation and financial efficiency. A significant move was the city’s adoption of OpenGov, a platform designed to streamline financial management and improve inter-departmental communication.

Richardson is particularly proud of the Frankfort Fire Department Station 1 project, which is underway at the former Pic-Pac property on West Second Street. This facility is set to enhance the city’s fire and emergency services, equipping first responders with cutting-edge technology and training. “This project will directly benefit local residents,” he affirmed.

Looking ahead, Richardson’s agenda includes crucial infrastructure projects. He underscored the importance of the Paddocks development in West Frankfort, which he believes will stimulate economic growth and increase city revenues over time. “This development will be a key driver for our community’s future,” he explained.

As an elected official, Richardson has committed to engaging with city management regularly. He maintains a weekly meeting with the city manager to discuss operational efficiencies and agenda items, showcasing his dedication to transparency and communication.

Richardson’s professional background adds depth to his candidacy. A 1987 graduate of Madison Central High School and holder of a Bachelor’s degree in police administration from Eastern Kentucky University, he has been a resident of Frankfort since 1994. His extensive law enforcement career culminated in a role as a law enforcement liaison with the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, where he collaborates with various communities on legislative and operational challenges.

His platform for the upcoming term includes expanding the city sewer system to foster economic development, enhancing public safety resources for first responders, and ensuring the city remains within budget while meeting community needs. “It’s essential to allocate resources effectively to maintain our financial health,” he stated.

One of Richardson’s personal goals is the development of a downtown convention and meeting center, which he believes will be a catalyst for economic growth and tourism. He also aims to address the city’s significant housing shortage, advocating for residential development on the west side of Frankfort. “With increased job opportunities, we need to provide adequate housing to retain our workforce,” he remarked.

Additionally, he supports initiatives for riverfront development and recreational facilities, emphasizing the importance of enhancing Frankfort’s appeal as a destination.

Richardson lives in Frankfort with his wife of nearly 33 years, Kim, and their three daughters. “Serving on the Frankfort city commission has been a privilege,” he shared. “I look forward to continuing to represent our community and addressing the needs of our residents.”

As election season heats up, Richardson’s commitment to community engagement and fiscal responsibility will be paramount. Stay tuned for more updates as the election approaches.
