San Antonio Marathon Needs Volunteers for Kickoff Weekend

UPDATE: Just over a week remains until the highly anticipated inaugural San Antonio Marathon weekend, and organizers are urgently seeking volunteers to ensure the success of this landmark event. Scheduled for December 5-7, 2023, the marathon promises an exciting three-day lineup, including a festive Friday night 5K under the holiday lights, a bustling expo on Saturday, and both the half and full-marathon on Sunday.

With an expected 18,000-plus registrations across the weekend’s events, the need for volunteers is critical. Longtime volunteer and runner Heather Hepp emphasizes the vital role volunteers play, stating, “You’re giving back to the community and you’re helping someone succeed. It could be the very first time somebody is running a marathon.” Hepp is among hundreds who have already signed up to support this monumental event.

Organizers from San Antonio Sports report that enthusiasm for the marathon has surpassed expectations. President & CEO Jenny Carnes highlights the excitement surrounding the marathon, saying, “Just couldn’t be happier about the support we’ve seen.” However, she stresses that additional help is necessary, particularly in three key areas: the Friday night 5K, the expo, and the finish line, which she describes as “the most rewarding place to volunteer.”

The volunteer experience not only aids runners but can also inspire others. Volunteer Dan Andrews shared his journey: “After volunteering a couple of years, I decided that if they could do it, I could do it. So about four years ago, I ran my first half-marathon ever, and I’ve been running ever since!” His story illustrates the profound impact volunteering can have on individuals.

San Antonio Sports invites individuals, groups, and teams to register as volunteers. Those interested can find comprehensive details at SanAntonioSports.org. With the marathon weekend fast approaching, now is the time to join the effort and make a significant contribution to the community.

As excitement builds for the San Antonio Marathon, the call for volunteers is more urgent than ever. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this momentous occasion that promises to inspire athletes and spectators alike.
