URGENT UPDATE: The San Francisco SPCA (SFSPCA) has just launched its 39th annual pet adoption event at Macy’s Union Square, aiming to find homes for 500 animals this holiday season. This beloved tradition, which has successfully placed over 10,000 animals in loving homes over nearly four decades, is now in full swing as of today.
Aeris Velasco, Assistant Manager of Adoptions and Client Care at SFSPCA, shared the excitement, stating, “We have done this event for 39 years. What an amazing number, those are all lives of animals that have homes now.” The event invites the public to visit Macy’s Union Square, where any animal over 5 months old is available for adoption at a name-your-price fee. This initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers, making it easier for families to adopt their new furry friends.
The window display not only showcases adorable animals but also serves as a nostalgic gathering spot for families. Velasco noted, “We are actually seeing folks that came here as kids, bringing their own families and kids to see the window displays.” This tradition is a significant part of San Francisco’s holiday spirit, encouraging community involvement in animal welfare.
Adopting from this event is designed to be straightforward. Potential pet parents must be 18 years old, present a valid ID, and provide proof of residency. Velasco emphasized, “It is so easy to adopt, and we want to make sure we take away any barriers to adoptions.” In addition, SFSPCA staff and volunteers are on hand to guide families through every step, from initial inquiries to post-adoption check-ins.
This year’s drive not only focuses on finding homes for animals but also emphasizes community engagement and the joy of giving during the holiday season. With each adoption, families not only gain a pet but also contribute to a cause that has changed countless lives.
The SFSPCA encourages everyone interested in adopting a pet to visit their setup at Macy’s Union Square or any of their locations in San Francisco. For more details, visit the official SFSPCA website.
As this event unfolds, the SFSPCA hopes to inspire more adoptions and create lasting memories for families during this festive time. Don’t miss the chance to bring home a new companion and be a part of this heartwarming tradition!
