Skoda Unveils Electric Revival of Iconic 1000 MBX Coupe NOW

BREAKING NEWS: Skoda’s design team has just announced an electrifying revival of its legendary 1000 MBX coupe, showcasing a modern twist on a classic that originally debuted in 1966. This rare project, completed in just four weeks, is part of Skoda’s ongoing “Icons Get a Makeover” series, which has also recently reimagined the 110 R coupe.

This stunning concept reinterprets the classic 1000 MBX, a model with only 1,403 units produced before its discontinuation in 1969. The new design incorporates Skoda’s latest Modern Solid styling, emphasizing a sleek and boxy coupe shape reminiscent of its predecessor while adding contemporary features that enhance its appeal.

The design duo, Antti Savio and David Stingl, have crafted an eye-catching vehicle that features innovative elements like rear-hinged doors similar to the Mazda RX-8, providing access to stylish bench-style front seats and cinema-like tip-up rear seats. This modern interpretation is purely a digital concept and is not intended for production, making it a fascinating exploration of what could have been.

Although the 1000 MBX remains a digital fantasy, it showcases high-end features uncommon in Skoda’s current lineup, such as a height-adjustable air suspension. This compact coupe, comparable in size to the last Audi TT, pays homage to its historic roots while drawing inspiration from other retro-futuristic designs, notably the Nissan IDx.

The electric concept also boasts unique touches, including a glass-covered oval dashboard, blending history with modern aesthetics. Skoda emphasizes that these creations are “what if” exercises, not previews of upcoming models, ensuring that while enthusiasts can admire the design, it won’t be hitting showrooms anytime soon.

As Skoda continues to innovate and push boundaries with its design language, the latest real concept, the Vision O, is poised to become a production vehicle in the coming years, further solidifying the brand’s commitment to electric mobility.
