UPDATE: In a surprising turn of events, the highly anticipated immersive entertainment venue, Wonderverse, located in Oakbrook Center Mall, will shutter its doors on December 22, 2024. The announcement was made public through a Facebook post by the organization, revealing that the venue will transition to a new concept.
The announcement has left many patrons questioning the abrupt closure of the sprawling 45,000 square-foot space that featured attractions inspired by blockbuster films such as Jumanji and Ghostbusters. The Wonderverse experience, which opened in January 2024, was designed by Sony Motion Pictures and featured a combination of physical and virtual reality games, themed installations, and a full-service restaurant.
Visitors are encouraged to redeem any remaining Wonderverse Play Cards or certificates by December 21, just one day before the venue’s closing. “We welcome you to come and enjoy our great food, service, arcade, and immersive experiences up until that time,” the post stated.
The closure has sparked speculation among fans and local residents, with no immediate clarification from Wonderverse organizers regarding the reasons behind this decision. Despite multiple requests, there has been no response from officials at Wonderverse or Oakbrook Center for further comment.
Wonderverse captivated audiences with unique attractions, including the Ghost Trap Speakeasy, virtual reality adventures in the jungles of Jumanji, and escape rooms based on the Uncharted franchise. The entertainment center also hosted live performances and weekly programming, making it a vibrant hub for entertainment in the suburban area.
For those with leftover credits, Wonderverse has confirmed that refunds will be issued to the original form of payment. Requests must be sent to [email protected].
As the closure date approaches, patrons are urged to make the most of their final visits. This sudden shift raises questions about the future of immersive entertainment experiences in the region and what concept will replace Wonderverse at the Oakbrook Center.
Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available regarding both the closure and the upcoming transition.
