UPDATE: A 47-year-old man from South Euclid was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI) after a hit-skip crash on December 3, 2023. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Mayfield Road, directly in front of a Walgreens store.
Witnesses reported that the driver of a GMC Acadia informed police that the other driver, who fled the scene in a white Toyota, exhibited signs of intoxication. Authorities quickly located the suspect’s vehicle at 1443 Richmond Road, in front of CVS/Pharmacy. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers confirmed the driver was intoxicated. He subsequently refused to take a breath test and was taken into custody for OVI and hit-skip.
This alarming incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding impaired driving in the area, raising questions about public safety and the need for increased vigilance.
In a separate incident, on December 6, loss prevention staff at L.L. Bean on Cedar Road reported a theft involving a 65-year-old man from Cleveland. The suspect allegedly stole merchandise valued at $1,020 on November 29. Authorities are still investigating and have not yet charged the suspect.
Additionally, police are investigating fraudulent activity reported on December 1 involving the business The Makeup Institute on Mayfield Road. A representative reported two fraudulent checks totaling $931.64 had been written using the business’s account.
On December 2, a concerning psychiatric situation unfolded on Kilbourne Drive. Emergency dispatch received a call in which a woman could be heard urging a male to “Put the gun down.” Police responded promptly and transported the 51-year-old man to MetroHealth Hospital for evaluation, ensuring the situation was safely resolved.
An additional disturbance occurred on Kenton Circle on December 4 when a 56-year-old woman requested police assistance regarding her intoxicated husband. Despite being described as “out of control,” the 55-year-old man declined police assistance to go to a rehabilitation facility.
Lastly, at 5:40 p.m. on December 5, a manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Cedar Road reported that three juveniles attempted to steal merchandise but fled the scene before police arrived. Officers quickly apprehended the boys at a nearby store, but no charges were filed as they did not successfully steal any items.
