Two Arrested for Attempted Homicide in St. Petersburg Shooting

UPDATE: Two men have been arrested for their involvement in a violent shooting incident in St. Petersburg, Florida, that occurred on February 11. The St. Petersburg Police Department confirmed that Charles Hinton, 18, and Christopher Tonsel, 22, face serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.

The shooting took place shortly before 5 p.m. at 731 15th St. S. Witnesses report that the victim, an 18-year-old man, was seated in the front passenger seat of a sedan when the suspects approached. The two men entered the back seat of the vehicle at the Citrus Grove Apartments located in the 700 block of 15th Street South.

According to investigators, chaos erupted when Hinton brandished a firearm and shot the victim in the back of the neck. After the attack, Hinton and Tonsel fled on foot, stealing the driver’s backpack in the process. The driver quickly drove to a convenience store located in the 900 block of 16th Street South to seek assistance.

Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition. Authorities are actively investigating the case, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
