Volunteers Build 200 CAN-Trees in Ventura to Fight Hunger

UPDATE: A remarkable display of community spirit unfolded at Ventura’s Figueroa Plaza on December 5, 2023, as volunteers constructed a stunning array of 200 CAN-Trees to support local hunger relief efforts. This initiative is part of the 14th Annual CAN-Tree Food Drive, organized by Food Share, aimed at collecting food for those in need across Ventura County.

The event, which started on December 4, featured volunteers of all ages who transformed canned goods into impressive, cone-shaped trees. Ranging from modest 3-foot tall trees to towering structures, these creations vividly showcased the generosity of the local community. Visitors flocked to see the spectacular installation, which was on display until December 6, directly across from the historic Mission Basilica San Buenaventura.

This year’s CAN-Tree Food Drive is critical as it addresses the growing food insecurity in the region, especially as winter approaches. Each can collected will be sent to the regional food bank for distribution to families in need, emphasizing the urgent need for support within the community.

Volunteer efforts exemplify a powerful message: together, we can combat hunger. The event not only highlights the importance of food donations but also unites the community in a shared mission to help those less fortunate.
