At approximately 7:20 PM on July 12, 2023, Sierra Ruggiero, 25, was violently pushed onto a busy street by a man on a bicycle who attempted to sexually assault her, according to a Chicago police report.
Ruggiero had just left the La Salle Blue Line station and was walking west on Ida B. Wells Drive when the incident occurred. The assailant pushed her over a railing into oncoming traffic, prompting immediate action from Alx Taylor, a 21-year-old witness who yelled at the attacker, causing him to flee the scene.
“I was terrified, but I knew I had to act,” Taylor stated. After the man escaped, she approached Ruggiero, checking on her well-being and offering comfort. “She was the kindest soul,” Ruggiero expressed, grateful for Taylor’s support as paramedics arrived to assess her injuries.
