Billionaire Funds ICE Agent After Deadly Minneapolis Shooting

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has contributed $10,000 to a GoFundMe campaign for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved in a controversial shooting in Minneapolis. The incident, which resulted in the death of Renee Nicole Good on March 15, 2024, has sparked significant debate regarding law enforcement practices and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The GoFundMe page was created to support Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who, according to officials, “fired defensive shots” at Good during an active operation in the area. Ackman’s donation is the highest on the campaign, which aims to assist Ross in the aftermath of the incident. The page states, “After seeing all the media BS about a domestic terrorist getting GoFundMe, I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a GoFundMe. Funds will go to help him.”

Ackman confirmed his donation through a post on social media platform X, expressing his support for both Ross and Good’s family. He noted his intention to donate to Good’s family campaign, which had already closed by the time he attempted to contribute. “I am a big believer in our legal principle that one is innocent until proven guilty,” Ackman wrote. He added, “The whole situation is a tragedy. An officer doing his best to do his job, and a protester who likely did not intend to kill the officer, but whose actions in a split second led to her death.”

The shooting occurred during an ICE operation, where Good was reportedly inside an SUV when Ross discharged his weapon, resulting in her death at the scene. Following the incident, Vice President JD Vance characterized Good’s actions as interference with federal officers, framing her death as evidence of escalating hostility toward law enforcement.

New footage of the incident released on March 16 has intensified discussions regarding the accountability of law enforcement in these situations. Critics, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have challenged the government’s narrative, arguing that Ross acted recklessly, leading to Good’s death. Frey held a press conference on March 15, calling for a thorough investigation into the shooting.

The FBI assumed control of the investigation on March 14, removing state authorities and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension from the proceedings. This transition has raised concerns among community leaders and advocates about the transparency and integrity of the investigation process.

Support for Good’s family has been substantial, with their GoFundMe campaign reportedly receiving more than $1.5 million in contributions before donations were paused. The situation continues to unfold as both community members and officials seek answers regarding the tragic events that led to Good’s death.
