Embraer Secures Uzbekistan and Philippines as New Aircraft Customers

Embraer has announced that Uzbekistan and the Philippines will be the latest customers for its KC-390 airlifter and A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft. This significant development was revealed at the Singapore Airshow, marking Uzbekistan’s entry into the global network of KC-390 operators and expanding the Philippines’ fleet of Super Tucanos.

The Philippines has confirmed the acquisition of a second batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, bringing its total number to twelve. Bosco da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, emphasized the company’s readiness to support demanding air forces in the Asia-Pacific region. “This is a clear demonstration that Embraer Defense and Security is ready for the future,” he stated during the event.

Details of the Aircraft Orders

While the exact number of KC-390 airlifters ordered by Uzbekistan remains undisclosed, Embraer previously announced in December 2024 that an unidentified customer would receive two aircraft. The first KC-390 for Uzbekistan is expected to be delivered later this year. The Uzbek Air Force plans to use this advanced aircraft primarily for transport and humanitarian missions, significantly enhancing its operational capabilities.

In December 2024, the order for six Super Tucanos was also made to an undisclosed customer. This new acquisition is an important step for the Philippines in bolstering its aerial defense capabilities.

Global Impact and Future Orders

Since its launch, the KC-390 has garnered a total of 47 orders from nine countries, with additional selections made by two other nations. One notable future operator is South Korea, which ordered three units in 2023 to strengthen the airlift capabilities of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). The first aircraft for the ROKAF is currently undergoing final assembly in Brazil, having rolled off Embraer’s production line in December 2023. Following assembly, the aircraft will proceed to flight testing and integration of systems tailored to the ROKAF’s specific needs, with delivery anticipated later this year.

Embraer’s expansion into the Asian market reflects the growing demand for advanced military aircraft, positioning the company as a key player in the global defense sector. As nations like Uzbekistan and the Philippines enhance their air forces, the KC-390 and A-29 Super Tucano are likely to play pivotal roles in their military operations.
