The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday night that it has dropped 2,000 bombs on targets in Iran since the commencement of Operation Roaring Lion on Saturday morning. This rapid military action matches the intensity of airstrikes conducted during the Operation Rising Lion, which took place in March 2025 over a span of six days. The current operation aims to dismantle Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities comprehensively.
The IDF expressed disappointment over Iran’s ability to rebuild its missile stockpile. Following a reduction from approximately 3,000 missiles in June 2025 to around 1,300 missiles within eight months, Iran has reportedly increased its arsenal back to 2,500 missiles. This resurgence highlights the challenges faced by Israeli military efforts to curb Tehran’s missile development.
Objectives of Operation Roaring Lion
The primary objective of Operation Roaring Lion is to conduct a thorough “root canal” of Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure. According to air force sources, the operation focuses not only on targeting the main factories that produce missiles but also on disrupting the supply chain of essential raw materials required for missile development. This strategic approach aims to significantly delay Iran’s capacity to rebuild its missile threat.
In addition to the bombings, air force officials acknowledged some losses of drones to Iranian air defenses. However, they stated that the number of drones lost has been relatively minor and has not hindered the overall pace of the air assault.
The IDF’s determination to neutralize Iran’s missile capabilities stems from the perceived threats posed by Tehran’s advancing military technology. The swift execution of airstrikes reflects Israel’s commitment to countering potential dangers from its regional adversaries.
As the situation continues to evolve, both military and political analysts will closely monitor the impacts of these operations on the broader geopolitical landscape and regional stability.
