Yungblud Urges Global Support for Iran’s Protesters During Concert

During a recent concert in Melbourne, Australia, English rock star Yungblud delivered a powerful message in support of Iranian protesters facing severe oppression. His passionate remarks, made in the context of ongoing turmoil in Iran, emphasized the urgent need for global solidarity.

Yungblud referenced the tragic case of Mahsa Amini, a young woman whose death in 2022 sparked widespread protests. “Two years ago, I spoke about a girl called Mahsa Amini from Iran, who was murdered for not wearing her hijab,” he stated. He underscored the significance of the fight for equality, asserting, “This community fights for equality and liberation throughout the world.”

Protests and Human Rights Violations in Iran

The remarks come at a time when Iran is experiencing extensive protests, largely driven by women advocating for their rights amidst an escalating economic crisis. Reports indicate that scores of protesters have lost their lives in the unrest. Yungblud passionately highlighted that “this revolution is led by the fucking women.”

He also addressed the harsh realities faced by these protesters, mentioning the recent disruptions to their communication and power supply. “For four days, they have had their internet cut off, they have had their electricity cut off. They are in darkness, they are asking for our voice,” he urged. “We have to be their fucking light right now.”

His call to action resonated with many, urging people to “speak, shout, post, because they are fighting for freedom. They are fighting for their freedom. They are fighting for our freedom, because nobody is free until we are all fucking free.”

Support from Other Artists

Yungblud is not alone in voicing support for the Iranian people. Iconic musician Madonna also shared her thoughts on social media, highlighting the longstanding absence of freedom in Iran. In her post, she expressed, “The people of Iran have not known freedom for centuries.”

She reflected on the privileges many enjoy, stating, “We take so much for granted. Myself included. The freedom to travel the world. To wear what I want to wear.” Madonna continued, emphasizing the stark contrast to the lives of Iranian women, who lack basic freedoms. “The women of Iran do not have this freedom. I stand with them,” she affirmed.

As global attention remains focused on Iran, the voices of artists like Yungblud and Madonna contribute to a growing movement advocating for human rights and justice. Their statements serve as reminders of the importance of solidarity in the fight against oppression and the need for collective action in support of those who are suffering.
