Chickasaws Surge to 5-4 After Dominant 4-1 Win at Denver Tournament

New Hampton Chickasaws Break Above .500 With Strong Win at Denver Tournament

The New Hampton girls soccer team pushed their season record to an impressive 5-4 after a commanding 4-1 victory over Washington at the Denver Tournament this past Saturday, showcasing a versatile offensive lineup that keeps growing stronger.

New Hampton’s win demonstrated the Chickasaws’ scoring depth with four different players netting goals. Junior Kimber Dungey, freshman Amelia Uribe, freshman Brynlie Anderson, and senior captain Tegan Dungey all found the back of the net, with Tegan now leading the team with 10 goals for the season. On the defensive end, sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Salas delivered a critical four saves to secure the win.

Coach Fayssal Talib celebrated the team’s performance, saying, “It feels good to see the players rewarded for their effort and growth. They’ve been training with purpose, and today they showed confidence, composure, and a real commitment to our style of play.”

Weekend Split After Tough Loss to Top-Ranked Denver

The weekend was a rollercoaster as the Chickasaws were handed a tough 10-0 loss by the No. 3 ranked host Denver Cyclones during the tournament’s first match. Despite the scoreline, freshman goalkeeper Rylie Rochford made an impressive four saves, showing promise in a heavy defeat.

Strong Season Momentum with Recent Shutout Wins

Before the Denver Tournament, New Hampton shut out Postville 4-0 last Thursday, marking their second shutout against the Pirates this spring after an 8-0 routing on April 11. During that shutout, Kimber and Tegan Dungey led offensively alongside senior Keziah Uglum, who scored her fourth goal of the year.

New Hampton faced setbacks earlier in the week with a tough 3-1 loss to Clear Lake on Tuesday, where Tegan Dungey scored the sole goal and Salas made seven saves.

Looking Ahead: Playoff Season Approaches

With the regular season rapidly nearing its end, the Chickasaws’ surge above .500 places them in a position of strength as regional play draws closer. Their recent performances reveal a team building momentum, confidence, and trust that could make them a formidable contender in the upcoming playoffs.

Coach Talib emphasized the team’s unity and growth: “Wins are always great, but seeing the team improve and trust each other — that’s the best part.”

New Hampton’s final regular season matches will be closely watched as the Chickasaws look to maintain their upward trajectory and secure a strong seed for the postseason.

Senior Night Celebration

The Chickasaws also recently celebrated Senior Night in a spirited match against Decorah, honoring their senior leaders including Tegan Dungey and Keziah Uglum, whose leadership has been pivotal for the team this season.

New Hampton’s electrifying offense and growing defensive resilience make them a team to watch as the high stakes of regional soccer loom ahead.
