**Maria T. Wierzbowski Passes Away at 83, Leaving Lasting Legacy**

URGENT UPDATE: Maria T. Wierzbowski, beloved matriarch and master seamstress, has passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at Ellis Hospital on November 17, 2025. This loss marks a profound moment for her family and the community, as they mourn the passing of a woman whose life was filled with creativity, love, and resilience.

Born on June 11, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany, Maria’s journey began in Wieprz, Poland, where she spent her early years. In 1968, she moved to the United States, quickly establishing herself as a talented master seamstress, a role that showcased her artistic skills. Later, she contributed her dedication to General Electric Research and Development as a cleaner.

Maria’s passion for nurturing those around her extended beyond her craft. Inspired by her desire to help others, she pursued studies in nursing. Her love for the outdoors was evident, as she found peace in gardening and caring for her plants. Maria’s hands, always busy, created stunning wreaths and quilts, gifts that warmed the hearts of her family and friends.

Family was the cornerstone of Maria’s life. She cherished moments spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, polka music, and stories of her native Poland. She is predeceased by her husband, Zygmunt Wierzbowski, who passed away in 1993, and her brothers, John, Eugene, and Edward Szostak. Maria is survived by her sons, Edward Wierzbowski (Gina) and Adam Wierzbowski (Elizabeth), and her cherished grandchildren: Kirsten, Zara, Luca, and Ayla Wierzbowski.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Memory Gardens in Colonie, followed by interment. The family encourages memorial contributions in Maria’s name to the Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
